I want you in my life
I long to wake up in your embrace
But trust me it won’t be long
Till we end up losing this race

Emotions are fleeting
They’re betraying and fickle
Like the Little Prince’s rose
Ephemeral and riddled

I tell you relationships falter
These feelings will come and go
Once we try to make it work
Your restlessness will grow

You want to be in my life you claim
That’s difficult to believe
From all the things you’ve said and done
Your faithfulness hard to conceive

It will all come to an end
The bitterness inevitable
We’ll have to go our separate ways
We’re fighting a losing battle

So friendship is what I can give to you
Better take it with a smile
Be kind, be true, be there for me
And make it worth my while

So I want you in my life
But I won’t wake up to your embrace
For when I say, “I love you”
Thus starts the countdown of our days
